About Florence, Italy

Welcome to Florence, the enchanting capital of Italy’s Tuscany region, renowned for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant cultural scene. Whether you’re planning a visit or simply curious about this magnificent city, here’s everything you need to know.
General Information

General Information

Florence enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters. In November, temperatures typically range between 10-15°C (50-59°F), making it a cooler month with frequent rainfall. Visitors should pack an umbrella and waterproof clothing. Daylight hours are shorter, with about 9 hours of daylight.

The city is brimming with attractions that draw millions of visitors each year. The Duomo, or Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, is famed for its stunning dome designed by Brunelleschi. The Uffizi Gallery houses masterpieces by Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci, while the medieval Ponte Vecchio bridge is lined with jewellery shops. Palazzo Vecchio, Florence’s town hall, with stunning statues such as the copy of the Statue of David, offers panoramic views from its tower, and the Boboli Gardens provide a serene escape with sculptures, fountains, and manicured gardens.

Cuisine + Culture

Florentine cuisine is a treat for the senses. Local specialties include Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a large T-bone steak; Ribollita, a hearty vegetable and bread soup; and Lampredotto, a traditional tripe sandwich. For dessert, try Cantucci, almond biscuits often served with Vin Santo, a sweet dessert wine. While in Florence, make sure to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle and rich coffee culture and take a break at a café. The most traditional way of having coffee in Italy, is not the “coffee-to-go”, but rather to sit, have a chat, and take a few moments to enjoy.

While tipping in Florence is not obligatory, it is appreciated. Rounding up the bill or leaving small change is usually sufficient. Tap water is safe to drink, and while Florence is safe, visitors should be mindful of pickpockets in crowded areas. Learning a few basic Italian phrases, such as “Grazie” (thank you) or “Dov’ è…?” (Where is…?) can also enhance your experience.

Florence in Summary

Florence is a city that captures the heart of every visitor with its blend of history, art, and modern vibrancy. Whether you’re exploring its ancient streets, savoring the local cuisine, or admiring its world-class art, Florence promises an unforgettable experience.
